Operation Sindoor: India's decisive action against terrorism
India, further toughening its policy against terrorism, carried out precise and effective air strikes on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under 'Operation Sindoor'. This action was taken in response to the terrorist attack on 22 April 2025 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which several Indians and a Nepali civilian lost their lives. The Indian armed forces launched this operation at 1:44 pm, targeting nine terrorist hideouts.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the aim of Operation Sindoor was to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen, which were plotting attacks against India. Areas like Muzaffarabad, Bahawalpur, Kotli and Muridke were targeted in the attack. The Indian Army, Navy and Air Force jointly used precision weapons and loitering munitions. Intelligence agencies provided accurate information about the targets, allowing the attacks to be successfully carried out from Indian soil.
Why was the operation named 'Sindoor'?The name 'Sindoor' was chosen because in the Pahalgam attack, the terrorists had specifically targeted the husbands of married women. The name reflects India's cultural sentiments, which sends a strong message against terror.
India held high-level talks with the US, UK, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Russia after the operation. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval clarified to the US counterpart that the attacks were carried out only on terrorist hideouts, not on civilian or Pakistani military facilities. US President Donald Trump described it as part of a "long-running battle" and hoped for an early end. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif termed it an "act of war", while schools were closed in Punjab province and an emergency was declared in Bahawalpur.
According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi monitored the operation throughout the night. Senior officials of the Ministry of Defense and the Army were in constant touch. The attacks on all nine targets were successful, and hundreds of terrorists are reported to have been killed.
Locals in Jammu and Kashmir raised slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Indian Army Zindabad'. Videos of the attack are going viral on social media. Jammu and Kashmir JD(U) leader GM Shaheen and BJP leader Altaf Thakur called it a timely and accurate decision.
Operation Sindoor has once again underlined India's zero tolerance policy towards terrorism. Indigo Airlines reported flights to several cities including Srinagar, Jammu, Leh to be affected. India has also planned mock drills across the country today, which shows security preparedness. This operation not only sends a strong message to the terrorists, but also strengthens India's commitment against regional stability and global terrorism.
